Kiln Service drop offs can be made during our Studio Member hours:
Tuesday 2 - 5
Wednesday 2 - 5
Thursday 2 - 7
Sunday 2 - 5
We currently cannot accomadate drop offs outside of these times.
Pearl Art Studio Kiln Services Policy
Pearl Art Studio offers kiln services to support local ceramic makers while protecting shared equipment and ensuring consistent cone 6 firings. Please read this policy carefully before submitting work.
ELIGIBILITY
Kiln services are available to:
- Pearl Art Studio members
- Former Pearl ceramics students
- Members of the public producing small-scale, non-production ceramic work
All work must meet the materials and size requirements outlined below. Pearl Art Studio reserves the right to refuse any work that does not meet these guidelines. An intake form must be filled out when dropping off work with clay and glaze information.
MATERIAL REQUIREMENTS
Clay:
- Cone 6 clay bodies only
- Commercially manufactured clay
- Clearly labeled with manufacturer and cone range
- No unknown, reclaimed, or experimental clay
Glaze:
- Cone 6 glazes only
- Studio glazes are encouraged
- Outside glazes must be commercially made and clearly labeled cone 6
- No homemade, ash, crystalline, or experimental glazes
- Pearl Art Studio reserves the right to refuse any glaze at its discretion
SIZE & FORM LIMITATIONS
- Work must fit on a standard kiln shelf
- No excessively thick forms
- No sealed or enclosed forms
- Maximum size subject to approval at intake
PRICING (PUBLIC RATES)
Bisque Firing:
- $25 per half shelf
- $45 per full shelf
Glaze Firing:
- $30 per half shelf
- $55 per full shelf
Small individual pieces may be priced per piece at Pearl’s discretion.
Members and former students receive discounted rates.
PAYMENT
- Payment is required before firing
- Work will not be fired until payment is received
TURNAROUND TIME
- Firings occur when the kiln is full
- Typical turnaround time is 2 - 4 weeks
- No rush firings
LABELING
- All work must be clearly labeled with the maker’s name
- Pearl Art Studio is not responsible for unlabeled or improperly labeled work
LIABILITY
Ceramics is inherently unpredictable. Pearl Art Studio is not responsible for cracking, warping, glaze defects, breakage, or firing outcomes. By using kiln services, you accept all risks associated with firing ceramic work.
