Pearl is a small, community-based ceramics studio for adult makers who want a steady, thoughtful clay practice.
A Pearl membership offers shared access to the studio for independent work in a calm, respectful environment. This is not a production studio or unlimited-access workspace. It’s a place to come regularly, work slowly, and be part of a small creative community.
Membership spots are limited.
What a Pearl Membership Includes

Studio Access & Time Use
To keep Pearl calm and accessible for everyone, members can attend up to 5 hours per week during posted member hours. This guideline helps ensure fair access to tools and space, a quieter studio atmosphere, and sustainable use of equipment and kilns.
Who Membership Is For
Pearl memberships are best suited for adult makers who can work independently, value process over production, and enjoy a slower, more intentional studio rhythm. If you have completed a 4-week handbuilding class at Pearl, you are considered qualified to apply for membership.
Materials & Firings
- Clay must be cone 6 and cannot be red clay unless discussed ahead of time
- A clear glaze is included; glaze sessions with access to full glaze inventory can be booked for an hourly fee
- Each member can purchase 5lbs of cone 6 clay each month for $20.
- All firings are cone 6
- Firing schedules depend on kiln availability and volume
- Ceramics are inherently unpredictable; Pearl cannot guarantee specific outcomes

Do I need prior experience to apply?
Yes. Members should be comfortable working independently. Completing a 4-week handbuilding class at Pearl qualifies you for membership.
Is instruction included?
No. Membership does not include instruction We are happy to offer light guidance, but memberships are meant to be independent. Classes and workshops are offered separately.
How much does the membership cost?
Memberships are $175 + HST per month.
Can I use the studio whenever I want?
Members may use the studio during posted member hours only. Pearl is not a 24/7 studio.
Currently the Member Hours are:
Tuesday - 2:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Wednesday - 2:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Thursday - 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Sunday - 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm
How much time can I spend in the studio?
Members typically work 4–6 hours per week to keep the studio accessible and calm.
Can I bring a guest?
Guests are not permitted unless explicitly approved in advance.
Is this a production studio?
No. Pearl is intended for personal, small-batch work, not high-volume commercial production.
Is clay included? Can I purchase it at the studio?
Each member can purchase 5lbs of cone 6 clay each month for $20. We can not offer more than this due to the risk of inventory shortage. You can purchase clay at Best Kind Mud Shop or YuYo Craft Supply + Tea House in Halifax. Please make sure your clay is cone 6 - otherwise yours and other members' ceramics will not make it through the firing.
